Joachim Schwahn, (Dipl. Biol.), Kiel
Studied biology in Göttingen and Kiel (Germany) with main focus on marine and freshwater
biology. Licensed research diver at the Institute of Marine Science, Kiel. Member of DGL
(German Society of Limnology) and SIL (International Society of Limnology).
Several years experience in working in a regional nature conservation office. Since 1987
freelancing with own consulting bureau dealing with the collection, analysis and
interpretation of biological base data for regional nature conservation plans, management
plans, wetland conservation and land use management, river and lake restoration as well as
more applied themes such as environmental impact assessment studies for water management,
flood protection and road construction, especially on the basis of EU Water Framework
Directive and EU Habitat Directive.
He has contributed to ecological studies in South America (Peru), West Africa (Benin)
and Asia (Bangladesh, Myanmar). From the backdrop of the Pendjari project he initialisized the
foundation of ArcCona. He is a confident communicator in English, French and Spanish.
